CIM’s Ph.D. programme in Christian Management is aimed at enabling research scholars to enhance their thinking and discovery of knowledge in the area of Management of NPOs with a Biblical level of excellence. The programme is associated with Martin Luther Christian University, Shillong.
One of the scholars, Robin Mathew, Maharashtra, enrolled in the Ph.D. programme of CIM, shared about its impact and significance. He mentioned that last month's ‘Theoretical Approach to Christian Management’ session with Dr. Johnson Thomaskutty was a rewarding one.
Dr. Johnson had begun with a profound statement, “God is the centre of Management”. As a New Testament scholar, Dr. Johnson skillfully revealed how the insights found in the Scriptures can be applied to leadership and organisational structures. The best part was when he divided the entire Bible into 7 sections, explaining what each section held in-depth and how a student of management should interpret it while doing research.
Furthermore, the scholar said, “One of the major takeaways that comes to my mind is that leadership is not about power but serving others selflessly, which is a valuable lesson for anyone in a management role.”
16 scholars from diverse backgrounds (CEOs to homemakers) are pursuing this doctoral programme and are at different stages. The candidates first joined the Pre-Doctoral Programme with CIM. After clearing the Entrance exam and Interview conducted by the University, the candidates follow their coursework with CIM and work on their thesis guided by their respective experienced supervisors. In addition, Research Forums are conducted every month where each candidate makes a presentation on a topic related to their research followed by conversation and suggestions.
As Robin states, the Ph.D. programme offers a unique perspective on how a researcher can integrate faith with management.
