Celebrating Leadership and Vision

Here are a few highlights of Dr. Aby Alexandar’s 17-year journey with CIM, his leadership roles and key contributions, including his recent appointment as Executive Director during CIM's launch of its 25th-anniversary celebrations. It also outlines his vision for CIM’s future through 25 strategic initiatives aimed at advancing Christian management to new levels of excellence.

This year marks Dr. Aby Alexandar’s 17th year at CIM. While serving as a lecturer at St. John’s College, Agra, Dr. Aby decided to go into ministry. With a passion for advancing the management development of churches and NGOs, he found CIM a channel for his commitment to Christian management.

Dr. Aby’s first role at CIM was as Senior Coordinator of Organisational Development (OD) from June 2007 to February 2008. Over the next couple of years, he actively promoted CIM’s ministry in northern India. Later, he went on to hold key leadership roles, including Dean of Studies, Assistant Director, and Director of the Department of Management Studies, where he conceptualised and coordinated courses on Christian management.

From April 2018 to July 2024, he served as Director of Courses and Publications, where he pioneered the Ph.D. programme in Christian Management and organised international consultations on Christian management, focusing on topics like Managing in a VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous) World and Accountability Integration for Organizational Growth.

During the pandemic, Dr. Aby led the “Management and Leadership” project, guiding organisations through change. He played a pivotal role in helping Bible colleges and educational institutions transition to online learning, and also established CIM’s Digital Library.

From August 2022 to July 2024, Dr. Aby served as Assistant Executive Director. He envisioned and organised the Conversation Series in collaboration with the Christian Leadership Alliance (CLA), USA, as part of the Global Digital Experience at the Outcomes Conference.

Dr. Aby was on a Sabbatical for a post-doctoral research with the Oxford Center for Mission Studies, UK, early this year.

He has consistently built connections with global leaders for collaborative engagements. Throughout his journey with CIM, Dr. Aby has been a forward-thinking leader, always striving to expand the organisation’s mission beyond its immediate needs.

At CIM’s launch of Silver Jubilee celebrations, Dr. Aby Alexandar was commissioned as the Executive Director. Rev. Dr. N. G. Matthew, a former Board of Studies member, led the dedication of Dr. Aby along with four other senior leaders. They thanked God for his testimony and farsightedness. Quoting 1 Timothy 6:11-16, he encouraged Dr. Aby to “fight the good fight of faith” as he steps into this new role.

Following his appointment, Dr. Aby outlined 25 initiatives to commemorate CIM’s 25th year, including the launch of the International Journal of Faith and Management, the establishment of the CIM campus, and the full digitisation of CIM’s operations. He presented mission statements that aligned with CIM’s vision of achieving management excellence grounded in Biblical principles.

At the launch, the General Secretary of the Indian Missionary Association (IMA) expressed his hope that CIM would attain a standard comparable to IBM’s in the secular world. Based on the 25th-year plan, under Dr. Aby’s leadership, CIM has already begun to steer in that direction.
